Greyson: 7 months

What a fun month it has been with our sweet boy! Grey is growing way too fast, and getting cuter and cuter all the time. He already has such a sweet little personality. He is also getting to be so curious. He army crawls all over the place to get to what he wants, and he's pretty fast too!

Up until about 2 days ago I was ready to officially announce that we now have a baby that sleeps through the night. He slept from about 7:30-6:30 every night for about a week, but has woken up the last couple of nights. I'm hoping this means the end of night wakings are in sight, at least. Honestly though, part of me will miss them a little bit. I feel like it's such a special time to spend with him. His sleepy cuddles melt my heart :)

Greyson has 2 teeth now! They cut through one right after another. It made for a couple of semi-rough days but once they were out he was back to his happy self. He already seems to be working on the next one though. He is constantly chewing on anything and everything. He is eating a variety of solid foods and does great with them. He can also hold his bottle by himself now.

We love seeing this cute boy of ours growing and changing and can't wait to see more of his personality develop!

Here's a sweet photo of our favorite boys together.

Greyson: 6 Months

Our cute boy is getting so big! He is changing so much all the time and getting so big! He is so happy these days. He smiles and giggles at just about anything. It feels like all of a sudden he's not a newborn anymore!

Here are his 6 month stats:

Weight: 18.63 lbs, 71st percentile
Height: 27.95 inches, 92nd percentile
Head: 17.3 inches, 57th percentile

He's still a big boy! I swear he's almost the size of Asher! Not really, but I really don't think it will be long until he's close. Asher tries to pick him up all the time but Grey is just too heavy for him. He's heavy for me too, though :) He is doing well and is a healthy boy. I can't remember if I have posted about his eyelid before... He has ptosis in his left eyelid which basically just means he has a droopy eyelid. We have taken him to a pediatric eye doctor a couple of times to make sure his vision isn't compromised. We pretty much just have to watch it and make sure it doesn't cover his pupil. If it starts to then they will do a corrective surgery so that his vision doesn't stop developing. Otherwise he wait to see if it will correct itself as his face develops and grows. If not, he will most likely have surgery around the time that he's five or so to correct it. We are really hoping it will correct itself and he can avoid surgery altogether. The good news is it has not gotten worse so far and even though it has been about the same the last couple of months, it has improved a lot since he was born.

Greyson has started moving all over the place. He's rolling and scooting all around. He can pretty much get anywhere he wants to go. For a few weeks now he has been getting up on his hands and knees and rocking. He seems too little to crawl still but I think it will definitely happen sooner than later. He has always been wiggly and has never been content to sit still for too long. Now that he is getting mobile he's much happier to play on the floor, which makes life easier for all of us! Oh, and he can find and put his binky in his mouth all by himself. I feel like that's a big milestone for babies who love binkys!

He is sleeping much better these days than he has been the past couple of months. He sleeps through the night most nights, at least until 5 or so and just wakes for a bottle. Other nights he may wake up once to quickly eat and then is back to sleep in no time. He has also started to nap a little better. He usually takes a short nap or two in the morning and then takes a long nap in the afternoon the same time as Asher. He makes me so proud when he sleeps well since it has been such a roller coaster!

We started solids this month and so far he has had zucchini, squash and apple sauce. He has liked them all so far but really does NOT like rice cereal. What baby doesn't like rice cereal? Weird. So we just stick with baby oatmeal instead.

Greyson is such a sweet little spirit! I can already tell he is going to be sweet. He loves cuddles from Mommy and Daddy and he sure loves Asher. He loves to scoot over to Asher and see what he's doing and they are always making each other laugh. We sure have been blessed with these 2 sweet boys!

Grandpa Joe

My sweet Grandpa Joe passed away last week, on October 18, 2013. He was 89 years old and passed just hours before his 63rd wedding anniversary to my grandma. I have always had a special relationship with him and my grandma. He was such an amazing person. I could not have asked for a better Grandpa. I was able to be there when he passed and say goodbye, even though he may not have known I was there. I was also lucky enough to see him just 2 days before, when he was coherent, so I could talk to him, see him play with my kids and tell him I loved him.

When Ashley and I were younger, we saw our grandparents almost every single day. They would babysit us before and after school when our parents were at work. One of my favorite memories is being at their house early in the morning with the wood stove burning a fire, sipping hot chocolate and my grandma making waffles. This happened every morning we were there. We also slept at their house often and those days were no different.

Every single summer, until I was about 15, they would take Ashley and I camping at Lava Hot Springs for a weekend. We were each allowed to bring a friend but our parents weren't allowed to come. We would spend the weekend floating the river, swimming at the pool and watching movies in the trailer. It was something special that I looked forward to every year. I think they really enjoyed it too. My grandpa would book a campsite at the same campground months in advance to make sure we could go.

One of my favorite memories about Grandpa is one that I think shows just how much he loved his grandkids. When Ashley was in the first grade or so, her class hatched baby chicks and she got to bring one home to keep. I was SO sad that I didn't get one. Without hesitation, Grandpa took me to the general store where he let me choose my own baby chick to bring home. My parents were definitely surprised to come home and find that we now had two chicks! Grandpa just couldn't stand to see me sad. Eventually, the chickens got too big for us to keep at our house so my Grandpa asked one of his friends who had a farm to take them. He would take us back every few months to visit the farm so we could see our chickens.

I also remember when I was about 11 years old and he took me fishing. He loved fishing. It was just the two of us. We spent all day sitting by the lake and riding around in his truck. And although I learned that day that I do not have the patience to fish, I will always remember and cherish that time with him.

He was the most gentle and caring person I have ever known. He was a very strong, tough man but when it came to his family, especially his grandkids, he was so soft. He always loved the little children and usually had a baby on his lap. He was so selfless, and so generous. I don't think I ever left their house without at least a $5 bill. No matter how much I would tell him not to worry about it, he would insist. He always wanted to make sure we were taken care of and had everything we needed, but never asked for anything for himself. He would do even the little things like check the oil in my car, have a bag of potatoes from his garden ready to send home, and drive to our house to shovel snow from the driveway to make sure we were safe. Not only was he kind but he was fun, and funny, and could talk to anyone for hours. I loved hearing stories about when he was growing up, or when he was in the marines during WW2.

I will always picture him working in his garden, sitting on the front porch and watching the hummingbirds at the bird feeders he would fill everyday, or sitting in his recliner cracking peanuts or reading all the family birthdays from his calendar. He never once missed a birthday card with $25. He was always there for me no matter what it was. When I was in elementary school I slipped on the ice and needed stitches, he was the one to show up at my school and take me to the hospital. He was there with me the whole time and comforted me until my mom was able to get there from work. I remember hearing stories about when I was a baby and we lived at their house for a short time. When I would wake up in the mornings he would send my mom back to bed and take care of me himself. He would ask me "Who loves you? Who do you love?" And I would always respond with "Grandpa!". I was always called "Stephie Joe" by many people in the family, and sometimes still am. Even though I have no middle name I always considered Joe as my middle name when I was a kid and was proud of it. I felt special to have that connection with him. I have always said my grandparents are some of my very favorite people in the whole world, and I have always meant it.

I really could go on and on with all of the wonderful memories and what a wonderful man he was. I am so so sad that he is gone. I am so grateful for the knowledge that I have that families are forever. More than ever before, I understand the importance of the resurrection, and the plan of salvation that He has in place for us. I have felt the Spirit so strong these last few days and have had my testimony strengthened. I have felt the Saviors love for me and know that he knows how deeply heartbroken I am. I know I will see Grandpa again. I am so happy for him that he is with his loved ones that went on before him. I am grateful that he no longer in pain. Losing him has made me more aware of the blessings I have. I have been so incredibly blessed to have him as my Grandpa and spend as much time with him as I did. I am so grateful that I had him in my life for almost 28 years.

I love you Grandpa and I will miss you everyday until we meet again.

Greyson: 5 months

Five months sure sneaked up quickly! I feel like I just wrote the 4 month post. Greyson is still growing like a weed and becoming more and more fun. He has started to get so much more interactive this month. One of my favorite things he has started doing recently is laughing and smiling at Asher. It's so precious to see that they already love eachother. Asher loves Greyson so much and it's pretty clear that Greyson knows and loves Asher. He smiles and coos at him and laughs when Asher is silly to him. I am so excited to see what great friends they become.

Greyson has not started any solids yet but will probably start on rice cereal this month. So far he hasn't been interested but I don't think it will be long. He is rolling and wiggling all over the place. The funny part is he still hardly rolls from tummy to back but rolls back to tummy almost immediately when we lay him down. He has also realized month that he can roll to get to the things that he wants. He has also discovered his feet and loves to pull his toes into his mouth. He pretty much loves anything in his mouth right now but always seems to have his fingers in there or is trying to munch on ours. With all the chomping and drooling I don't think it will be too long before we start to see some teeth coming through.

We pulled out the excersaucer this month and while it took a little time to get used to, he seems to like it these days. As long as he can still see us he will play in there for a little while. He has really started to notice when we are not around and hates to be left alone. When he wakes up for a bottle in the middle of the night I have to bring him back to our room and lay him with Tim while I get the bottle. If I try to leave him in his room in the crib after I go in to give him his binky he really gets mad. He loves to lay next to us and hold our hands to his cheek. It's pretty sweet how he calms down just knowing we are there with him.

He usually just wakes up once in the night to eat and gets up for the day at about 6 or 6:30. He still usually only naps for 30 minutes at a time, unless he is being held, but will occasionally take a nice long nap in his crib. We will be starting some sleep training this month so I'm hopeful that will help with the short naps.

We sure love our sweet Greyson and love watching him grow and learn new things. I'm so grateful to be his mom :)

Greyson's blessing

Greyson was blessed by Tim on September 1, 2013. Tim gave him a wonderful blessing that felt truly inspired. The blessings he received were without a doubt from a loving Heavenly Father. He was blessed in our ward, Pheasant Point 5th ward in Lehi.

After the blessing we had lunch at our house with lots of family. It was a wonderful day and we are glad that so many people came to show their love for Greyson!

I am so grateful to have the gospel in my life, and to have a husband who can exercise his priesthood and bless our children. I am even more grateful that I have an eternal family. I love my family more than anything and knowing that I can be with them forever is such a blessing. I love being a wife and mother!

Greyson : 4 months

Our cute Greyson is getting so big, and cuter everyday!

Here are his 4 month stats:
Weight: 16.64 lbs. - 82nd percentile
Height: 26.97 inches- 97th percentile
Head: 16.9 inches- 69th percentile

I was a little shocked when they told me how much he weighed. I knew he was big, but I didn't realize he was almost 17 pounds at 4 months big! I love it though. His cute chubby cheeks make me smile.

He is getting so fun and interactive. He certainly knows and loves his Daddy, Mommy and Asher. He started laughing at Asher this month, which was so adorable. They are so cute together. Asher loves Greyson, and Greyson loves to watch Asher be silly.

Greyson is rolling over now. He actually started rolling over about a month ago but would only do it once every few days or so. He is doing it all the time now, except only back to front. It's really too bad for him because he does not like being on his tummy, but constantly rolls to his tummy and then won't roll back, even though he has done it before.

We finally moved him into his own room about a week after he turned 4 months. He had been sleeping in our room in a bassinet. I actually really miss having him in there with us but he no longer fits in the bassinet, otherwise I would keep him in our room much longer!

We love our big boy! He is so sweet. We are so lucky to have him in our family!

Choo Choo Friends

Asher is pretty much the funniest kid I know. He says the cutest things and always has such funny ideas. "Choo choo friends" started about 6 weeks ago or so when Asher saw a Mickey Mouse Clubhouse music video about a train called "Choo Choo Express". I guess he thought it said choo choo friends because he called it that for weeks and begged to watch it all the time. It was really cute. Plus, he LOVES trains and anything to do with trains. Choo choo friends has evolved a bit since then. He has recently started calling it "Choo choo expriends", a nice combination of the two. A few days ago he decided to make his own choo choo expriends. He loves to line things up in rows lately, so it was only a matter of time before he made a train out of it. He lines up all of his bigger toys and then puts a smaller toy on each one. I guess the little ones are the passengers. Then he will choose which one he wants to ride and repeats "CHOO CHOO". Since the first time, he has done it everyday since. It gets bigger everyday. What a silly boy!

Greyson: 3 months

Greyson has been getting more and more fun everyday! He is getting big way too fast. It makes me a little sad that this time is passing so quickly, but I do love seeing how much he is growing and changing. I feel like he seems older than just 3 months. He is so aware, and so big!

My favorite thing that happened this month- he started laughing! The first time was on August 11, and it was adorable. He has been laughing everyday since then and it just gets bigger and bigger each day. I love it. He has also gotten so smiley. He immediately smiles first thing in the morning when he sees us and gets a big smile every time we talk to him. He's really pretty happy these days and only really fusses when he is tired. At first I was worried that he was going to be a hard baby because he seemed so unhappy, luckily that didn't last long and he has actually been a wonderful baby.

Greyson has been going to physical therapy and I have been doing stretches and exercises with him everyday to help him get over the torticollis. At his appointment today he officially graduated from physical therapy! We will still be stretching to make sure that his muscles develop the way they are supposed to, and help him strengthen his neck. He is doing wonderfully though and holding his head up straight most of the time. We also will have to go back in about a month to have his head shape checked but so far I don't think he will end up needing a helmet.

He is still a fabulous sleeper. He does still wake up once a night but usually not until 4 or 5. He also often falls asleep on his own and seems to be a somewhat heavy sleeper so far. He does sleep better at night than at nap time but he will often take a good nap at the same time as Asher.

Greyson is one sweet and adorable little guy. We sure have been blessed to be his parents!

Greyson: 2 months

Two months already! Greyson has been changing so much lately. I love that he is becoming more alert and interactive. Plus, he is getting so big! I took him in for his 2 month appointment yesterday and couldn't believe how much he has grown.

2 month stats
Weight: 12.35 lbs- 66th percentile
Length: 23.9 inches- 80th percentile
Head: 15.4 inches- 26th percentile

He has grown almost 4 inches since he was born and has gained over 4 pounds! I sure love the chub he is getting. He has the cutest chubby cheeks and double chin. He did great at the appointment and the dr said he seems to be perfectly healthy.

He still sleeps the majority of the time but is spending more and more time awake. He has started cooing and started smiling just a couple of days ago. He sure has made us work for those smiles but they are so cute and so worth it! Greyson has not always been the happiest baby since he seemed to have an uncomfortable tummy, but lately he has seemed so much better. He seems to be much more comfortable since we have switched formulas. Even though he is still a little extra fussy, it's wonderful that he is a little happier. It gives us more time to talk and play with him rather than spending all of his awake time trying to calm him.

I have been so lucky this time around. Greyson is a wonderful sleeper. I have only had to get up with him once a night almost every night since he was born. He sleeps until Asher wakes up in the morning. He would probably sleep later but Asher just won't let him :) I have not had one single night where he doesn't go back to sleep easily after eating. He also can already put himself to sleep from time to time if we lay him down drowsy. I'm pretty confident that he will sleep through the night before too long. He still sleeps in our room in the bassinet, which I love. It breaks my heart to think about moving him into his own room. I love having him so close all of the time. Soon he will be too big for the bassinet though and we won't have a choice but to move him to the crib. Hopefully he will last in there another month or so. I need more time to prepare myself for the big move!

Since about a week after he was born we have been pretty positive Greyson has torticollis, just like Asher did. He always turns his head to the right and has a tilt. I can also feel the tight spot in his neck.  I took him to a physical therapy evaluation just before his 2 month well check and it was confirmed. Since we already recognized it and know what to do to take care of it we started working on it before he was even diagnosed. We have been constantly repositioning his head and the way we hold him and were already doing some stretches. I have not been as diligent with the stretches  as I could have been but now we are really working on it consistently hoping we can resolve the issue in just a couple of months. Also, I am hoping that we can avoid anything more than a normal flat spot since we have already been repositioning his head since birth. The physical therapist did measure a slight flat spot at his appointment but it's nothing to be concerned about at this point, I really can't even see it. I have been wearing Greyson whenever I can rather than laying him down so that should make things a little easier. We are going to continue with physical therapy and hope the issue is non existent in just a few months.

We are so happy that Greyson is healthy and growing. He has been such a blessing and joy to. There is no doubt that he was meant for our family. Now that he is here I can't imagine our lives without him. We love our handsome little man!

These are just some photos I took with my phone today :)

Birthday celebrations

Before becoming a parent, I never realized what a special day your own child's birthday is. Asher's birthday has pretty much become one of my favorite days of the year, and I know Greyson's will be the same way. I feel like their birthdays are days that when it's easy to see how far we have come as a family, and how much they have grown and changed in just a years time. It's not just a fun day celebration for them but a celebration for the parents as well, we made it another year!

We started talking about Asher's birthday a couple of weeks before the actual day. I was hoping he would understand, at least a little, that it was a special day all about him. While at the store a few days before I needed to get some candles for the cake. Asher was so excited when he saw them, he wouldn't even let me put them in the cart because he had to hold them the whole trip. He started singing Happy Birthday and pretending to blow them out. He carried around the "birthdays" all day (including a trip to Old Navy) and asked for them first thing the next morning. I'm pretty sure his favorite part about birthdays are candles now. He's a funny kid.

This year and last we decided to celebrate Asher's actual birthday with just our little family. It's a tradition that I have really enjoyed and I think it's something that we will continue. It was on a Friday so Tim took the day off of work. The night before we blew up a bunch of balloons so Asher would see them right when he came downstairs in the morning. He loved it! We also had his gifts out and let him open them before we even had breakfast. It took a few minutes before he realized the presents were for him and that he should open them but once he realized he did great. We gave him a couple of books and a tricycle.

After gifts and breakfast we got cleaned up and headed to the zoo. This was Asher's first trip to the zoo since he has been old enough to enjoy it. It was a really fun day and I think he really enjoyed it. His favorite animals were the gorillas, the otters, the polar bear and the giraffes. The only disappointing part was that he kept asking about hippos. We didn't realize the zoo didn't have hippos anymore and told him we would see them. He didn't forget and really wanted to see some hippos. We were bummed they were gone. Greyson did great just hanging out in the baby carrier all day.

After the zoo, we headed home for naps. Tim put together Asher's bike (with Ashers help, of course) and he rode it around the house all evening. He isn't quite big enough to reach the pedals so we got one that has a handle on the back so we can push him around. He loved having Tim push him around. We had a little cake and let Asher blow out some candles. We had to sing and do candles twice since he enjoyed it so much the first time. He knew just what to do. He had a huge grin the whole time we sang and blew the candles right out.

On Saturday evening we had a little get together to celebrate with extended family. We decided not to do an actual party this year since I wasn't sure I would feel up to it with Greyson being just a month old. It was nice to just keep it simple. In attendance were my Dad, Leslie, Keaton and Ryan as well as Tim's parents and brother Aaron. Leslie made an adorable tractor cake that Asher loved. I started asking him a couple of weeks early if he would want a tractor cake or a Mickey cake. It was pretty clear he wanted a tractor cake. I thought I would make one myself but once Leslie said she would make him a cake we knew that would be perfect. It turned out a million times better than anything I would ever be able to do! He was spoiled with a basketball hoop, a little table and chairs, a train set, a tractor and some new clothes. When we moved into our house he also got a new dresser as an early birthday gift from my mom and Rudy. We had a lot of fun and are very grateful that Asher has so many people who love him!
